Abstract | ||||
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of Chrysanthemum on some hematological parameters in the anticancer drug capecitabine (xeloda) exposed male rats . Thirty six albino rat were divided into 6 groups (6 animals each) as follows:1) capecitabine (xeloda at dose of 30 mg as apositive control); 2) capecitabine (xeloda) + low dose of Chrysanthemum (5 mg); 3) capecitabine (xeloda) + high dose of Chrysanthemum (10 mg) ); 4) Chrysanthemum (low dose, 5 mg) 5) Chrysanthemum ( high dose, 10 mg); 6) Control group (negative control) for 45 days. The results of the present study revealed that capecitabine (xeloda) treatment induce decrease in RBCS, leukocytes, and platelets count, level of HBG and HCT, however the treatment with capecitabine (xeloda) in combination with Chrysanthemum ameliorate these changes especially with the high dose of Chrysanthemum. In conclusion, the data suggest that the complimentary use of Chrysanthemum with capecitabine (xeloda) treatment will be beneficial to reduce the adverse effect of capecitabine (xeloda) in chemotherapy. | ||||
