Abstract | ||||
Preserving heritage in buildings is an integral part of the process of preserving human identity. It is illogical to believe that restoration alone is sufficient to preserve ancient buildings, but what really provides protection for these buildings is their reuse after restoration. The research problem lies in the failure to apply the concepts of sustainability in (rehabilitation, maintenance ) of the heritage buildings used as schools in Egypt, which negatively affects the performance of those schools environmentally, economically and socially, as well as on the level of scientific students and their awareness of the concept of sustainability . The objectives of the research were to study the rehabilitation, maintenance, restoration and preservation of the ancient buildings converted into educational buildings, using several environmental techniques that take into account the heritage. The research deals specifically with the study of how to raise the efficiency of the functional performance of these buildings, by taking into consideration during the rehabilitation, maintenance, restoration and preservation operations (UNESCO, 2012). And a set of results were the failure of the rehabilitated archaeological buildings to meet the local design standards with a high percentage in the provisions of the General Authority for Quality Assurance and the failure to also meet the standards of international standards, which is the LEED database for schools , Considerations and offices have been proposed Criteria for evaluating conservation and re-employment projects for ancient buildings converted into schools include sustainability criteria. Considerations and procedures for maintaining architectural works and decorative details were proposed. | ||||
