Abstract | ||||
A numerical simulation using Flow-3D software was conducted to study the characteristics of forced hydraulic jump. So the purpose of this study is mainly to improve that the efficiency of this special stilling basin for increasing the ratio of the energy dissipation by using obstacles such as shaped square and circular baffle blocks in various arrangements. Nearly about sixty runs were considered, and each configuration of baffle blocks was tested under five values of discharges were as follows (80, 100, 120, 140, and 160 liter/second). Their for the numerical results showed that the obstructions have a significant effect on improving the flow characteristics and either for that the main reason for increasing the energy dissipation. So the best case is installing nearly seven rows of circular shape of baffle blocks in a staggered way at equal distances in this special stilling basin, and the relative energy loss approximately ranged between 50% to nearly 60% according to the flow conditions. | ||||
