Abstract | ||||
This article considers the problem of testing the validity of the assumption that the underlying distribution of life is Pareto. For complete and censored samples, the relationship between the Pareto and the exponential distributions could be of vital importance to test for the validity of this assumption. Hence making use of the considerable efforts that have been dedicated to testing for exponentiality. This paper develops an approach to testing goodness of fit for the Pareto distribution based on grouped observations. In case of Type I censored data when each item has its own specific censoring time, the grouped frequency distribution provides information on the number of lifetimes falling into each group as well as the number of withdrawals observed to fall in each group. Graphical as well as analytical procedures will be presented. Maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of the Pareto distribution based on grouped data will be derived. | ||||
