Abstract
The feasibility of using SBRT as an alternative to BT for cervical cancer treatment was investigated in this study. Twenty patients with locally advanced cervical cancer were included and treated with EBRT, chemotherapy, and either BT or SBRT. Dosimetric analysis was performed to compare the two treatment techniques and assess the proximity of organs at risk.
The results showed that SBRT had significantly better target coverage compared to BT. Additionally, SBRT demonstrated better sparing of critical organs such as the bladder, sigmoid, and rectum, as evidenced by lower D2cc and D1cc values. However, there were no significant differences between the two techniques for D5cc. The maximum dose to the femoral heads was also significantly lower with SBRT. These findings suggest that SBRT is a safe and effective option for cervical cancer treatment when BT cannot be performed.
It is important to note that the movement of organs and potential low doses to other structures should be taken into consideration when using SBRT. Further research is necessary to optimize the use of SBRT for cervical cancer treatment. Overall, this study provides valuable information for clinicians faced with the challenge of treating cervical cancer patients who are unable to undergo BT.
