Abstract | ||||
Serum basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) was determined before and after surgery in 40 female patients with cancer breast, 20 with no metastasis (group 1) & 20 had metastasis. Sixty percent of group I had elevated bFGF and showed a significant difference before and after surgery, while 80% of group II had elevated bFGF with no significant difference before and after surgery. The mean value of serum bFGF before surgery in group I was 7.64+2.96 and it was 4.91±1.89 after surgery compared 8.56±2.8 & 8.02±2.8 for group II. This indicate that bFGF has a direct relation to the tumor and its metastasis and surgery in non-metastatic tumor may normalized the level of bFGF and its increase may indicate metastasis. | ||||
