Abstract | ||||
Background: Promoting recovery of patients with schizophrenia contributes to improving their capacity to manage their illness by themselves and reducing their psychological difficulties which in return improve overall quality of life despite their illness. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of recovery program on self-management for patients with schizophrenia. Design: The study followed a randomization control (experimental) design . Setting: The study was conducted at the psychiatric, neurology and neurosurgery center and the psychiatric department of Tanta University Hospital. Subject: randomized sample of 60 patients with schizophrenia. Those patients were divided randomly into study and control groups (30 patients for each). Tools: Data were collected using three tools: Tool I: Recovery Assessment Scale, Tool II: Patient Activation Measures (PAM) and Tool III: Modified Colorado Symptom Index (CSI) Results: The study revealed that implementation of recovery program among patients with schizophrenia had highly strong positive correlation with self-management and highly strong negative correlation with psychological difficulties immediate and after 3 months of the program Conclusion: The efficacy of recovery program on achieving higher self-management and lowering psychological difficulties of patients with schizophrenia in comparison to before the program. Recommendation: Recovery program should be incorporated with pharmacological therapy for treatment of patients with schizophrenia to help them reach optimal recovery level and gaining their ability to manage their illness by themselves. | ||||
