Abstract | ||||
Spinal epidural abscess is a rare pathology consisting of an extensive purulent spinal collection in the spinal epidural space. It is a major medical and surgical emergency. Magnetic resonance imaging is currently the most sensitive and specific examination for the diagnosis of epidural space pathologies. We report a case of a 64 years old male admitted for the management of a spinal cord compression due to a dorsal spinal epidural abscess, successfully treated with surgery and adapted antibiotics after a bacteriological study of pus samples. We report a case of a 64 years old male with a history of urinary tract intervention, admitted for the management of a subacute weakness of both lower limbs progressively evolving for 15 days prior to his admission, in whom the clinical and the neurological examination found a paraparesis graded 4/5 predominating in the proximal part, a T4 sensory level, with a pyramidal syndrome and a posterior cord syndrome. He also had urinary incontinence. All evolving in a febrile and an altered general state with a Karnovfky score estimated at 60%. | ||||
