Abstract | ||||
Introduction: Female sexual dysfunction is a common problem with serious effects on women’s quality of life. The biological effects of estrogens are mediated primarily through high-affinity binding to estrogen receptors. The association between estrogen receptor genes and sexual desire and arousal in women has not yet been specifically studied. Aim: To assess estrogen receptor alpha gene polymorphism in females with sexual dysfunction and to detect its relationship with sexual dysfunction in females. Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 48 women divided into two groups: 24 women with sexual dysfunction and 24 healthy women as a control group. Sexual function of all participants was evaluated using The Female Sexual Function Index. Estrogen receptor alpha gene polymorphism was assessed using polymerase chain reaction and Horizontal gel electrophoresis.
