Abstract | ||||
This research explores the social behaviors that reflect the core of the social life of the ancient Egyptians through a selected examples provided of a discrete group of documents, known as wisdom, didactic literature or as instructions. These examples provide us with evidence that explains the social behaviors of the ancient Egyptians. The study approaches different texts that explain some of the good and bad manners instructed to the children. The main aim is to illustrate way of thinking and the social behaviors and its impact in the life in ancient Egypt. The manners which are discussed in this paper are: good ethical treatment of people, gluttony in eating and greediness, gossip, respect public and dealing with people ethically, venerating the elderly and showing respect towards the disabled, the rights of the neighbors and their guardianship, friendship, counselling and advising the ruler and avoiding the adultery. Having scrutinized the texts in the scope of this study, it is clear that a structure of ‘good’ or ‘bad’ character of man can be built up by the behvaiors mentioned in these texts. | ||||
