| Abstract: Objective: to report ophthalmic manifestations of Behçet disease (BD) in a cohort of Egyptian patients. Methods: 60 BD patients (120 eyes) according to the International Criteria for Behçet's Disease were included and screened for ocular affection. Detailed ophthalmic history and examination with a slit lamp and fundus examination were done on all patients even in the absence of ocular symptoms. Results: Ocular affection was detected in 60% of the patients. 8 patients lost their vision, 3 patients had single seeing eye (5%) and 5 patients were blind (8.3%). 33 of the patients had uveitis (55%). Pan-uveitis was the most common form, being acute in 20% and chronic in 11.7%. Anterior uveitis was the second most common, 8 of BD patients had acute form (13.3%) and 4 had chronic form (6.7%). 2 had isolated acute posterior uveitis (3.3%), and no statistically significant difference was detected between male and female BD. Conclusion: Uveitis is the most common ocular presentation in BD. Routine ophthalmic consultation should be done to detect and preserve vision early. | ||||
