Abstract | ||||
This research aims to develop environmental concepts and environmental problem-solving skills among secondary school students using REACT strategy through liberal reading topics in the Arabic language curriculum. To achieve the research goal, the researchers selected five environmental topics in liberal reading in the first year of secondary school, and reviewed scientific and environmental literature and references. In previous research and studies, the researchers developed a list of environmental concepts and another list of environmental problems that are addressed in teaching the proposed topics. Research tools were also prepared, which are a test of environmental concepts and a scale for solving environmental problems. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed topics, the researchers used the experimental method, where Two experimental and control groups were designed, with pre- and post-application, of first-year secondary school students from the same school in which the research was being carried out. The concept test and the environmental problem-solving scale were applied pre- and post-test after teaching the proposed topics. Statistically significant differences were found between the average scores. Students in the experimental group pre- and post-test and scale, while there is no statistical significance between the average scores of the control group pre- and post-test.This indicates the effectiveness of using the REACT strategy in developing environmental concepts and problem-solving skills among first year secondary school students, when teaching liberal reading topics, and it is recommended to teach these proposed topics.
