Abstract | ||||
Objective: The purpose of this research is to compare the impacts of open kinetic chain exercise (OKCE) versus closed kinetic chain exercise (CKCE) on quadriceps/hamstring ratio (Q/H ratio), muscle thickness of the quadriceps and hamstring, and functional ability of the knee joint in knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods: it is randomized control trail. Groups: total sample size of 60 subjects. - Group A: Consists of 20 participants who received OKCE for the knee, with selected physical therapy program that involves ultrasound (US) and manual Instrument Assisted Soft-tissue Mobilization (IASTM) Technique - Group B: consist of 20 participants who received CKCE for the knee, with the same selected physical therapy program. - Group C: Control group consist of 20 participants who received the selected physical therapy program. - Results: - Between group comparison revealed statistically significant differences between three groups regarding hamstring and quadriceps strength and Q/H ratio (p<0.05) - Within-group comparison showed statistically significant differences between pre- and post-treatment mean values of the Q/H ratio in group B (p=0.001), while there have been no significant differences in groups A and C (p> 0.005). There were statistically significant differences between pre and posttreatment mean values of WOMAC in the three groups (p<0.05). - Conclusion: CKCE are superior to OKCE in improving quadriceps ms. thickness and strength and Q/H ratio. While OKC EX. was relatively superior to CKC EX.in improving hamstring thickness, strength and function. | ||||
