Abstract | ||||
The objective of this study is to assess the readiness of the distribution system in Aswan City, Egypt, to accommodate the increasing penetration of electric vehicles (EVs). The focus is on evaluating the potential overloading of the existing infrastructure, particularly transformers, and understanding the impact of EV charging patterns on the distribution system. This study specifically investigates the distribution system in Aswan City, which is known for its high temperatures, making it a challenging environment for EV operation. Real data from consumers and transformer statistics are used to simulate and analyze the impact of EVs on the distribution system. The study employs different scenarios to represent the variations in ambient temperature throughout the year, ranging from 48 degrees Celsius in summer to 11 degrees Celsius in winter. These scenarios are further categorized into daily, weekly, and annual loading scenarios, taking into account the charging patterns of EVs in different locations within Aswan City. The analysis of the distribution system reveals that the current infrastructure might face challenges with the anticipated increase in EV penetration. The study identifies potential overloading of old transformers due to the additional load imposed by EV charging. It highlights the need for rescaling and upgrading the distribution system to ensure its stability and avoid system collapse Aswan City's distribution system needs careful planning and modifications to accommodate the expected surge in EVs. The study emphasizes the importance of considering EV penetration when designing and operating distribution systems to prevent any disruptions in power supply. | ||||
