Abstract | ||||
This study investigated the effect of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatment on the control of Alternaria leaf spot caused by Alternaria alternata in tomato. In vitro and in vivo experiments were performed to evaluate the antifungal efficacy of MeJA through its effect on defense enzyme activity. MeJA at concentrations of 50, 100, and 150μl/l significantly inhibited Alternaria mycelial growth and spore germination compared with the control. The strongest inhibitory effect was observed at 150µl/l. Furthermore, the application of 150µl/l MeJA was found to be the most effective solution in reducing the incidence and necrotic areas in tomato leaves. MeJA treatment resulted in higher activities of peroxidase (POD), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), and total phenolic compounds in the treated and inoculated plant leaves compared to untreated plants. These findings suggest that MeJA has potential as an environmentally friendly method for controlling Alternaria leaf spot in tomato. | ||||
