Abstract | ||||
Religion is central to how many people make sense of the world and their place in it. Islam is considered one of the world’s fastest-growing religions (Lipka Hackett , 2017). Muslims believe that Islam cannot be separated from one’s daily living practices. Muslims also believe that understanding Islamic concepts and theology will make them better people. Thus, for Muslims investigating the Islamic perspective on disability is important. This article explores Islamic thinking on people with disabilities based on the Qur’an, Hadith and Islamic history. The researcher conducted an extensive review and searched the Qur’an for references or terms related to disability cross-referenced Qur’anic verses containing the same terms and then confirmed these meanings with the Hadith. The Qur’an and Hadith place responsibility for solving the issues of people with disabilities on the shoulders of society through their constant encouragement to Muslims to recognize the dilemmas that disabled people face and to improve their condition and status. In conclusion, even though Muslims have shared beliefs and principles their attitudes towards the disabled can differ based on their culture and political influences | ||||
