Abstract | ||||
ABSTRACT A series of experiments done in which a granular material is exposed to horizontal vibration within a rectangular container with two hallow cylinders mounted inside of it. At high values of the peak acceleration relative to gravity novel swirl granular flows are observed within the cylinders while the grains cascade down the outer surface of the piles which fixed in the bottom of the container within the rectangular container outside the cylinders. Computer simulations are performed which may support the existent interpretation of the unusual aforementioned behaviour. | ||||
