Abstract | ||||
Due to limited exposure and tectonic complexity of the mélange rocks in the Sikait-Abu Rusheid-Nugrus area, their affinities and evolutions are inadequately studied. Here we focus on the tectonic mélange in the Sikait-Abu Rusheid-Nugrus area located in the Southeastern Desert of Egypt. The mélange is composed of Proterozoic sequences and is characterized by a complex tectonic history. The study aims to understand the provenance and tectonic setting of the mélange by analyzing its geochemistry. Petrographic analysis reveals the presence of schist as the matrix and ultramafic blocks such as serpentinite and ultramafic ortho-schist. Major oxides and trace elements were analyzed to assess the geochemical composition of the rocks. The results indicate that the mélange primarily originated from felsic to intermediate igneous sources derived from wackes, with some samples arkoses and Fe-shales. The study area is located at an active continental margin, which adds to its tectonic complexity. Overall, this study provides insights into the geochemistry and tectonic evolution of the mélange in the Sikait-Abu Rusheid-Nugrus area. Understanding the tectonic history of this region contributes to a better understanding of the broader tectonic processes and geological evolution of the Arabian Nubian Shield of Egypt. | ||||
