The term "Industrial Design Engineering", which was launched by Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1986 for one of its faculties, sparked a great deal of controversy when the name was translated into Arabic as "Industrial Design Engineering". The translation was misleading. Therefore, it was necessary to correct this linguistic error, as industrial design cannot be introduced as a human activity to create objects with the aim of raising the quality of life of humanity, under the guise of "Natural Science." Due to the philosophical nature of the research, its methodology was based on rational contemplation and logical reasoning, as the two branches of human knowledge were studied: "Human Science" versus "Natural Science". To determine which branch of knowledge the industrial design branch belongs to. The research also discussed the basic issue of the research on codifying the concept of "industrial design" objectively by adapting some of its characteristics to accommodate the new circumstances and conditions caused by the confusion resulting from the use of the term "Industrial Design Engineering" as the explanatory statement for the concept of "Industrial Design." In light of discussing the research issue, a set of evidence was presented to prove that industrial design, as a creative human activity, falls under the umbrella of "Human Science." 1963 Reasons for the closure of the German Ulm School (HfG). 1983 Documentary book published by the UK Design Council under the title: “Industrial Design in engineering a marriage of techniques” 1986 Establishment of a faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, which includes an Industrial Design program alongside an Engineering Architecture program. 2020 Launch of the Capstone Global Project for Professional Support of Industrial Design and Engineering 2021 Definition of the World Design Organization (WDO). Accordingly, the research result was as follows: The renewed definition of the concept of "Industrial Design" as an independent branch of knowledge under the banner of "Human Science" is "Industrial Design." |
