Abstract | ||||
The research mainly aimed to study the determinants of Egyptian demand for red meat by studying the current status of production and imports of red meat, statistical estimation of the determinants of Egyptian individual demand for red meat from the most important foreign markets, and estimating the current standard model for Egyptian demand for red meat. The results reached: The average Egyptian per capita share of red meat imports from India is affected by the price ratio between the price per kg imported from India and Brazil and the average Egyptian per capita income. The average Egyptian per capita share of red meat imports from Brazil is affected by the price ratio between the price of a kg imported from Brazil and India, and the average Egyptian per capita share of Egyptian national income. The results of the simultaneous model also showed that it is the most important factor affecting the average Egyptian per capita share of red meat imports from Brazil. Red meat consumption is the average Egyptian per capita share of production, the average Egyptian per capita share of national income, and the exchange rate. The production equation also showed that the most important factors are the average Egyptian per capita consumption and the average Egyptian per capita share of imports, while the import equation shows that the most important factors are the average Egyptian per capita share of consumption and production and the ratio between the average price of a kilogram of red meat imported from Brazil and that imported from India. Therefore, the study recommended the necessity of redistributing optimally Egypt’s imports of red meat according to quality and price. | ||||
