Abstract | ||||
A large part of agricultural commodities are lost during their trading and transportation from the producer to the consumer during this process, as the loss is represented in the loss of quantities of these commodities as a result of various operations such as transportation, storage, preparation, harvesting, etc., or as a result of changing the characteristics of some of these commodities or losing quantities of the water they contain or as a result of damage, diseases or insects, which leads to an increase in the percentage of loss in some agricultural products by about 67% in wheat, about 7.6% in rice, about 17.3% in potato crops, 45.4% in tomato crops, about 11% in onion crops, 13.5% in grape crops, 15.8% in orange crops, and the amount of loss in grain crops is estimated at 2903.60 thousand tons average for the period 2001 - 2023, including about 2090.2 thousand tons of wheat, 158 thousand tons of rice, And about 3913 thousand tons of vegetables, including 707 thousand tons of potatoes, whose economic value is estimated at about 446.4 thousand dollars annually, 1727 thousand tons of tomatoes, whose value is about 746.1 thousand dollars annually, and about 294 thousand tons of onions, whose value is about 98017 thousand dollars annually, and about 281 thousand tons of fruits, whose annual value is 270 thousand dollars, and about 305 thousand tons of oranges, whose annual value is 124.07 thousand dollars. To emphasize the importance of working to improve marketing services operations during the trading process of these different crops so that the outcome of this improvement is reflected in the Egyptian economy by increasing foreign exchange earnings and also reducing imports of value to provide foreign exchange, also improving the income of producers and dealers in these goods due to the increase in quantities without losing or spoiling them, and this is reflected in the market on prices and on the consumer. Conclusively, the need to pay attention to agricultural practices in the production and trading stages, as improving these practices leads to reducing losses and improving the quality of agricultural products, which achieves an increase in production, improves income, and preserves the products and their quality for the consumer from spoilage. | ||||
