Abstract | ||||
Language plays a pivotal role in times of war and major crises, as it can be used to justify one's own actions, minimise the attitudes and actions of others, or even be used to mislead the reader and thus reduce or eliminate sympathy for others. This research examines and analyses the recent conflict that began in October 2023 in the Gaza Strip and spread to southern Lebanon and other cities in Palestine. The research focuses on German and Arab media discourse, examining examples of the use of terms and expressions in German media materials in dealing with the war and how language becomes a tool in managing the war, thus addressing the issue of linguistic violence or the use of certain stylistic methods in order to give the reader certain impressions in the context of war. The research focuses on the most famous German and Arabic media outlets. In addition to the linguistic analysis, the research addresses the extent to which translation issues may arise due to different visions or labelling of the same event in the German and Arab media sources. All examples are taken from original texts, which the researcher translates from or into Arabic if necessary. | ||||
