Abstract | ||||
Architectural design seeks to create buildings and spaces that optimize the experience of their occupants by using building materials that engage human senses. The role of building technology in this process is to develop systems that utilize advanced construction materials, allowing dynamic interior spaces to respond to natural human needs. This includes managing air flow based on natural principles and regulating solar energy according to daily patterns, while ensuring the functionality of interior elements. The result is an intelligent outer shell that interacts with external environmental data, significantly enhancing human comfort. Throughout history, building materials have been so influential that they have defined entire eras (e.g., Stone Age, Bronze Age). Therefore, architects must understand the art of using both ancient and modern materials, as well as the role of past technologies in their development and control. The evolution of building materials has had both positive and negative effects on human biology, particularly in terms of thermal comfort. Historical buildings, constructed with natural materials, maximized their interaction with the external environment and led to successful architectural designs. By mastering material properties and adapting them to functional requirements, architects have historically created intelligent architectural spaces. This approach continues today, with advanced materials contributing to the formation of environments that promote human comfort. | ||||
