Abstract | ||||
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to investigate the effects of pre-incubation in ovo injection with different levels of L- carnitine (L-Car) on hatchability traits of Bronze Turkey eggs, some blood plasma constituents of turkey chicks at hatching and subsequent growth performance. A total of 300 eggs were obtained from Bronze Turkey flock with an average weight 77gm. Before incubation, eggs were randomly divided into four main groups each of 75 eggs in three replicates (25 eggs each). The 1st group was used as a control (C) without injection. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th groups were injected with 0.1 ml distilled water contains: 6, 8 or 10 mg L-Car respectively. Hatchability (%), Early and late embryonic mortality (%) were calculated. A total of 132 hatched Turkey poults belonging to the same four experimental treatment groups were divided into four groups,( of 33 poults in three replicate, 11 poults each). The LBW, BWG, FC, and FCR were determined. The results indicated that, injection with 6 or 8 mg L-Car had significantly (P≤0.01) increased hatchability (%) and decreased of early and late embryonic mortality compared with the other treatment groups. A significant (P≤0.01) improvement of LBW, BWG and low FC for group injected with 6mg L-car compared with the other treatment groups. Blood Plasma constituents were significantly higher for the group injected with L-car. of Bronze turkey chicks compared to control group. Histological examination showed in ovo injection with L- car pronounced development of small intestine and lymphoid organs compared to the control group. It is concluded that, the pre-incubation in ovo injection technique with 6 or 8 mg L- carnitine could be used for improving the hatchability traits of Bronze turkey eggs, immunity of their chicks, reduce the negative effects of injection on embryos and subsequent growth performance of turkey poults. | ||||
