Abstract | ||||
This study is one of the significant researches that accurately traces the development of documentary inscriptions in Islamic arts, most particularly in Morocco. The importance of this study lies in tracing the development of documentary inscriptions in Islamic arts in Morocco during the rule of Almohad and Marinid dynasties, in addition to identifying their contents, highlighting their artistic patterns, and emphasizing the diversity of their materials and the various methods of their implementation in different materials; including stone, gypsum, metal, wood, pottery, porcelain, and more. The study classifies these inscriptions according to their historical chronology and artistic style, providing an accurate scientific description that can help scholars, researchers, and specialists clearly document the history of the inscriptions lacking the date or place of manufacture. The study analyzes Almohad and Marinid documentary inscriptions and clarifies the historical and archaeological implications of those inscriptions, through tracing the names and titles mentioned in them and interpreting related issues. It also highlights the reciprocal influences on the documentary inscriptions in Moroccan applied arts during the Almohad and Marinid dynasties, received from either the Islamic East or Andalusia. In addition, the study sheds light on the most important centers for manufacturing the materials of those inscriptions and their most famous manufacturers, all of which add a new value that effectively contributes to tackling many historical incidents, and political and social issues posed by the inscriptions in Morocco. | ||||
