| Abstract | ||||
| يلقى هذا البحث الضوء على تصاوير عادة اجتماعية هندوسية تعرف باسم "ساتي" وتعني تضحية الأرملة بنفسها في محرقة زوجها، وهو تقليد کان منتشرًا بين بعض العقائد الهندوسية في الهند، فقد اعتبروه دليلًا على وفاء وإخلاص الزوجة لزوجها، وترجع هذه التصاوير إلى مدرسة شرکة الهند الشرقية في الربع الأخير من القرن12هـ/18م واستمرت طوال القرن13هـ/19م، وهي مدرسة فنية متطورة في فن التصوير جمعت بين الأسلوب الهندي وبعض التقنيات الأوروبية، وتلقي الدراسة الضوء على مراحل تطور هذه المدرسة، والسمات الفنية التي ميزتها، وکيف استطاعت أن تستمر طوال قرنين من الزمان أنتجت خلالها مجموعة ضخمة من التصاوير التي أعطتنا صورة صادقة عن الحياة الاجتماعية في الهند خلال هذه الفترة، وأصبحت وثائق واقعية على الأحداث التي مرت بالهند خلال فترة سيطرة شرکة الهند الشرقية البريطانية. This Paper Reconsiders the Sati of the traditional Indian (Hindu) practice of a widow immolating herself on her husband's funeral pyre. The sati tradition was prevalent among certain sects of the society in ancient India, who either took the vow or deemed it a great honor to die on the funeral pyres of their husbands. According to ancient Hindu customs, sati symbolized closure to a marriage. It was a voluntary act in which, as a sign of being a dutiful wife, a woman followed her husband to the afterlife. It was, therefore, considered to be the greatest form of devotion of a wife towards her dead husband, Miniatures of Sati traditional In Company Painting, Company painting is a broad term for a variety of hybrid styles that developed as a result of European (especially British) influence on Indian artists from the early 18th to the 19th centuries. It evolved as a way of providing paintings that would appeal to European patrons who found the purely indigenous styles not to their taste. | ||||
