| Abstract | ||||
| The study aims to identify the role played by information specialists in the libraries of Dammam University in Saudi Arabia and the extent to which they are entrusted with the tasks assigned to them, and the extent to which they possess the tools and characteristics of the shift towards the roles of knowledge workers, as well as to identify the shortage of skills and characteristics of the information specialist, to make up for that shortfall. The study relied on the use of the descriptive analytical method in a manner field case study to identify the role and duties of specialist information for knowledge workers. The study showed that the information specialist possesses many skills and tools that enable him to play a fundamental and clear role as knowledge workers. These skills include knowledge of the concepts of specialization and awareness of their meanings, follow-up and continuous new specialization on a continuous basis, possessing technical skills related to dealing with electronic resources and others, conferences and workshops in specialized professional, facing information specialists in the University of Dammam libraries with many challenges, such as the challenge of English terminology and specialized, as well as the issue of awareness of the role of specialist information for knowledge workers, and finally came out father Aceh set of recommendations and proposals, including the need to bridge the language with the other party through the involvement of specialists in English language courses and workshops on an ongoing basis, and to spread awareness among specialists role expected of them laborers knowledge through continuing to hold them responsibility and evaluation for them. | ||||
