Abstract | ||||
Background: Retrograde ejaculation is one of the most common complications in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) surgery. Objectives: the aim of this study was to evaluate the ejaculation and the urine flow of the patients after preservation of paracollicular gutter at the apex of prostate during transurethral resection of prostate. Patients & Methods: This prospective clinical study was carried on 22 cases were recruited from the patients suffering from obstructing BPH who were admitted to Zagazig university hospital Department of urology, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University during the period from March 2018 to December 2018. Results: This study shows that antegrade ejaculation is preserved in 19 patients (86.4%) while retrograde ejaculation seen in 3 patients (13.6%).no statistical differences were reported in International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) at baseline and after 6 months. The post ejaculatory urine specimen show sperms in samples of three patients. In present study regarding intraoperative complication only one patient developed TUR syndrome and was managed with diuretics, and there were 2 patients required blood transfusion. Conclusions: In EP-TURP technique it is possible to preserve the ability of antegrade ejaculation. Furthermore, functional results are excellent and peri- and postoperative morbidity is at least comparable to regular TURP. Because of this technique we can only say that the apical part is the critical part of the prostate. | ||||
