Abstract | ||||
This study evaluated the effect of Sukkari date extract on STZ induced diabetes in male rats. forty male albino rats were divided into 2 main groups: Group I ( Control): Consists of 10 rats act as normal control. Group II (STZ) : Consists of 30 rats injected with a single dose of STZ (50 mg/kg b.wt ; i.p) for induction of diabetes and after 48hr divided into 3 subgroups (10 each ):Subgroup a : Diabetic rats not treated and act as diabetic control .Subgroup b: Diabetic rats administrated with aqueous sukkari date extract at a dose of 10 ml/day orally for 60 days.Subgroup c : Diabetic rats treated with Amaryl tablets at a dose of 1ml / rat / day orally for 60 days. Blood samples were collected after 60 days from treatment . Determination of (Glucose , Lipid profile , Insulin , MDA, SOD and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine(8-OHdG) , Inaddition paraoxonase 1 (PON1) was estimated in Liver tissue . STZ injected rats showed a significant increase in serum Glucose, cholesterol , triglyceride , LDL ,MDA and 8-OHdG level, with significant decrease in insulin , HDL and SOD levels.Moreover a significant downregulaion of PON1 in liver homogenate. Treatment of diabetic rats with aqueous sukkari date extract or amaryl showed a significant ameliorate in all parameters nearly normal level that indicated the hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and antioxidative damage effect of aqueous sukkari date extract . | ||||
