Abstract | ||||
In this article, we will attempt to explore the narrative universe of the writer Mario Vargas Llosa by analyzing Who killed Palomino Molero? (1986). The aim of this work is to analyze the theme of corruption, violence and racism of the public official represented by the police and the military, which feature prominently in this novel. We also try to expose the author's way of denouncing and criticizing everything that happens in Peruvian society in the 1950s. The writer shows notorious signs of perversion to reveal the negative image of the civil servant in that society. It is convenient to point out that the mystery of this story is not only focused on how and who committed this crime, but also on why they did it. The theme of this novel is of particular importance, as it highlights the accusatory value of the novel and the effect of literature to act on the reader to generate a critical attitude towards the events described. Not only is it a brutal crime, but the facts reveal the existence of mechanisms of protection, complicity, and silencing, which reveal practices linked to the spheres of power in Peruvian society and institutions. To carry out this study, we are supported by the theoretical studies of Johan Galtung, Mikhail Bakhtin, Freud and Todorov, among others. | ||||
