Abstract | ||||
The main objectives of this study were to know: (a) the differences between extension workers in North Upper Egypt Governorates in their performance level of their functional tasks and factors affecting it, (b) training programmers attended by extension workers in these governorates, (c) information sources used by extension workers and their relative importance, and (d) problems and constraints of their performance of their functional tasks. The study was conducted on a sample of 235 extension workers drawn randomly from all extension workers in Fayoum, Beni-Suaif and Minya governorates. A questionnaire form was designed to collect necessary data by means of personal interview. Results showed that most extension workers (75%) had low or average level of performance. The most significant factors determining their level of performance were: educational qualification, use of information sources, awareness of recent changes in agriculture and job satisfaction. These four factors interpreted 39.5% of variance of extension workers level of performance of their functional tasks. The results also showed that the number of extension workers who performed each task differed from one task to another. Their exposure to information sources also differed from one source to another. More than one – fifth (22%) of extension workers never attended any training courses designed for extension workers which were mostly reported to be for one or two days and mainly given as theoretical lectures. Several problems face extension workers to perform their functional tasks effectively. | ||||
