Abstract | ||||
This study sheds light on Corona Virus pandemic, Covid 19, and its impact on developing the German language through examining various metaphors. It begins by discussing the global crisis created by the pandemic as one of the largest crises that has destabilized the whole world. The study is divided into two parts: the theoretical (academic) part that explores the theoretical dimensions for change within the German language at the phonological, morphological and syntactic levels and their effect on the German sentence structure and lexical meanings. Moreover, the study focuses on the semantics, which results in an alteration in the meaning that entails an expansion or narrowing, as well as a transformation in the meanings of certain words. The study concludes with a practical part that explains the semantic transformations of some lexical items through examples of metaphors and their relation to the Corona Virus pandemic. | ||||
